Toby Foyeh and Orchestra Africa at DePauw October 27
OCTOBER 11, 2007
October 11, 2007, Greencastle, Ind. – The music of Toby Foyeh and Orchestra Africa — which fuses traditional Nigerian Yoruba music with jazz, rock, pop, and Latin sounds to create a unique and creative style — will be featured at DePauw University on Saturday, October 27. Presented by the DePauw Performing Arts Series as part of ArtsFest, the concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. in Thompson Recital Hall of the Green Center for the Performing Arts. There is no admission charge.
Foyeh and his ensemble create what they call “Afrijam Music.” The band leader cites influences such as Jimi Hendrix and Carlos Santana, as well as traditional musicians from his native homeland of Nigeria. Orchestra Africa utilizes traditional percussion instruments, along with electric guitar, bass, keyboards and a full drum set to perform ballads and dance music.
For this special concert at DePauw, the group will also perform with three traditional dancers on some selections.
