On Friday, January 29, 2021, in the afternoon section Three Times from Proglas, we will present the album Pirates Of Africa, which was recorded by the British singer of Nigerian origin Toby Foyeh with the band Orchestra Africa.
Traditional music of Nigerian Yoruba, African music styles highlife and afrobeat, as well as jazz, rock, pop and Latin American music. Toby Foyeh mixes all this in her work with her band. Foyeh was born in London to Nigerian parents and currently lives in the United States. He gained his first musical experience in Nigeria, but went to study in America, where, among other things, he attended the famous Berklee College Of Music in Boston. He called his original musical fusion “afrijam music” and spread it not only on his own albums, but also in collaboration with other artists. For example, he had a joint project with keyboardist Roy Carter. Foye’s band Orchestra Africa itself relies on a combination of traditional instruments, such as gangan and bata drums, with guitars, keyboards, synthesizers or a flute. The rhythmic component, which is based on complex African rhythms, is significant,so solo party guitars and flutes. Toby Foyeh sings with the help of backing singers.
